Young Gordon Emery is in love with wealthy Estelle Summers and is given encouragement to propose at a party; but abashed by the thought of his poverty, he desists. Gordon then learns that he is the sole beneficiary of a $2 million will, but Estelle tells him she will not marry him unless he loses all his money. His partner, Windsor, advises him to get a jail sentence, which would cause his Uncle Mortimer to cut him off. He tries forgery, stealing a motor car, and robbing a bank; but he succeeds only in becoming a hero for capturing some real thieves. In desperation, he tries to burglarize the home of George Stanways; then he learns that his uncle has just willed his money to a new wife. When Gordon and Estelle are about to be married, however, he is arrested, but the complications are ultimately resolved.
