Heather is a teenager desperate to escape her small hometown, until she meets Kane and falls madly in love. However, after a few short months together, Kane is arrested for dealing drugs and sentenced to a year in prison. Heather puts her life on hold while she waits for him to be released. During that time, she finds a job at a local gas station. Kane is soon out on good behavior and seems a changed person and committed to making a honest living. But after several knock backs due to his criminal record, he is forced to a menial labor job. Unable to leave the state because of parole, the young couple try to make the best of their situation, but Kane becomes increasingly jealous, controlling and violent. Heather goes into denial, manipulated by his emotional attacks and fearful of further beatings. As her friends urge her to leave, she must find the strength to do what is best for her or risk losing her life.
