Capt. Lafe Todd, a Confederate soldier released from a Union stockade at the end of the Civil War, travels to a Western town two years later to kill Col. Carl Dorsett, one of the men responsible for his brother's murder in prison. Jean Harmon, Dorsett's fiancée, her brother Will, and her Uncle Ben seek to avenge Dorsett's death by lynching Todd. The sheriff takes Todd into protective custody, but Todd and a deputy are headed off by Slade, the other man responsible for Todd's brother's murder, and brought to a hidden mountain cabin. There Todd learns that Dorsett was a rustler, and that Slade and his gang have kidnaped Jean and Will and are holding them for ransom. Uncle Ben is sent off for the ransom money, but he returns with the Harmon ranch hands. In the ensuing fight, Slade and his henchmen are killed.
